It might seem a bit out of place, but it is a fact that there are folks in the United States of America who cross their lines between autism and Tourette s syndrome. But why? The latter is a neurological disorder that involves or causes body movements and vocal outbursts that are not ordered. On the contrary, autism is a different kind of disorder altogether. One that affects the social behavioral, and emotional development of a child.
Autism causes its patients sometimes also to suffer from self-destructive behavior. Such actions as head-banging, scratching or biting themselves causes most parents to be afraid to leave the children on their own. That is why several parents have their autistic kids committed to some facility where others get to keep the kids under surveillance 24 hours a day. It’s not a bad idea, if you can afford it.
Child abuse and emotional stress can cause a child to withdraw from the rest of the world and choose to remain by themselves by and by. There is no reason to suppose that such a child is suffering from autism unless a doctor says so. Rather than jump to conclusions, you will do well to find the source of the strange behavior instead.
Autism could be a disease all by itself, or it could be a collection of a number of separate disorders acting in unison to mess with the heads of little children. All we can tell so far is that most kids start to show the signs around three years of age, and keep it up sometimes for life, or sometimes till they are well advanced in age. Only with more work and results than we have now will we know more for sure.
